Question by overkill_tester: Is giving a gift to a co-worker of the opposite sex appropriate?

I am a male and I want to give her a gift for her birthday. Will she think I have some kind of feelings for her? Would it be appropriate to give her such a gift? She also got a promotion and really did a lot of good things for the company. She accomplished one of her goals she wanted to do. I just want to reward her in my own personal way.
I don't think the other male co-workers would be doing something like that nor her male co-workers she usually hangs around with and are considered her friends.

I don't think it is inappropriate at all - it's her birthday, won't she be getting gifts off other people too?

Just don't choose wrapping paper with hearts on and don't put 'love from' in the card. Put 'kind regards' or something businesslike.

HERE IS A RAP UP OF WHAT HAPPENED....

42-year-old Frank Lombard of Durham, North Carolina has been arrested for allegedly offering his adopted 5-year-old son up for sex over the internet. Lombard is also associate director of the Center for Health Policy at Duke University and has been placed on unpaid leave.
Not fired, mind you, but put on leave.

An FBI informant allegedly saw Lombard online performing sex acts on an African-American child believed to be one of his adopted sons.

The following is from a chat between Lombard and an undercover agent.

In the chat transcript, “F.L.” is asked how he got access to a child so young. “Adopted,” he replied, and said that the process was “not so hard … esp (sic) for a black boy.”

In the chat, “F.L.” told Palchak that abusing the child was “easier when he was too young to know what was happening and when he couldn’t talk …He had a little too much Benadryl. Was knocked out.”

So not only did Lombard adopt his kids for his own sick sexual fetishes but he also took advantage of the fact that there are an inordinate amount of black children waiting to be adopted into loving homes.

In a subsequent online chat, the warrant says, “F.L.” invited Palchak, who he did not realize was a police detective, to fly to Durham to have sexual contact with the child. He even suggested a hotel.

It’s a shame that this isn’t an executable offense because I would volunteer to throw the switch.

He can't be fired because he is Black and it would be a clear case of racial discrimination if they did.

In any event, it is generally customary to presume innocense until proven guilty in a court of law;

Question by BillP: if there was no social stigma attached to having sex would women be just as bad as men?

i've met lots of women who are just as bad as men but have to hold off because of the fear of being labeled and the reputation they'll have to carry. so i would have to say women would be every bit as dirty as men if they wouldn't be looked down upon for liking and wanting sex. let me know what you think
